Whether you’re a singer-songwriter looking to record a solo album or sketching ideas for a larger ensemble, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo offers a simple, compact solution for quality desktop or laptop recording. With enhanced performance features, including sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz, low-noise, high-gain preamps, and high-headroom instrument DI, Focusrite’s Scarlett Solo is a USB-bus powered audio interface that not only lets you record anywhere the muse takes you, it also comes bundled with a suite of recording software and plug-ins that let you mix with impressive results. The Scarlett Solo has astonishingly low latency that lets you record and monitor with software effects in real time, and also a direct monitoring feature for zero-latency tracking that bypasses computer software.

Focusrite Scarlet Solo in one take:

  • Upgraded instrument inputs
  • Direct monitoring eliminates latency issues
  • Comprehensive software suite included

INSIDE THE BOX- Focusrite Scarlet Solo

The Scarlett Solo features a number of technical innovations that put it at the head of the class. An updated converter design provides a wide dynamic range and sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz high-resolution audio. Thanks to its innovative driver and conversion design, Scarlett offers a round-trip latency as low as 2.74ms (depending on DAW and software settings). With Scarlett Solo, you can work entirely in your DAW for overdubs and playback, and track in real time with plug-ins, without the need for outboard DSP, or disabling effects to save RAM when you track. Along with comfort effects, you can perform to a cue mix that sounds the way you want the final mix to sound.

To ensure a long recording life, the Scarlett Solo has circuitry on the inputs and outputs to protect against unwanted power surges, such as phantom power accidentally being plugged into the outputs, or shorted inputs with phantom power. The Solo’s gain controls have an evenly distributed gain curve that makes it easier to set input levels with greater accuracy. Scarlett Solo is an active device, which requires a DC power source. However, the Scarlett Solo doesn’t require an external power supply. Power to the Scarlett Solo is supplied via USB by from the computer (Mac or PC).

Upgraded DI performance

The Scarlet Solo, designed with guitarists in mind, has an instrument input that provides an additional 8dB headroom over other designs, which lets you use guitars with the highest-output active pickups without clipping or unwanted distortion. The Scarlett Solo preamp is clean, transparent, and accurate, thanks to Focusrite’s 30-plus years of experience in preamp design, starting with the famed ISA modules built for Sir George Martin’s AIR studios. The Scarlett preamp has 50dB gain, which makes it very mic-friendly. (While 60-70dB gain is recommended for ribbon mics, some modern designs can perform quite well with 50dB.)

Direct monitoring eliminates latency

Even though the Scarlet Solo boasts an extremely low round-trip latency, actual latency can be affected by the settings of the DAW software and other factors. Turning on the front-panel Direct Monitor switch will route your input signals directly to the Scarlett Solo’s headphone and main monitor outputs. This enables you to hear yourself perform with zero latency, i.e., in real time, along with the computer playback. The signals input to your computer are not affected in any way by this setting. Simply connect a pair of stereo headphones to the front-panel headphone jack to hear what you are recording, along with any tracks you’ve already recorded. This eliminates any latency, allowing you to focus entirely on your performance without the debilitating effects of latency.

Comprehensive software suite included

To let you compose, record, mix, and export your music right out of the box, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo comes with time-unlimited versions of industry-standard music software, including Ableton Live Lite, Pro Tools | First, and the Focusrite Creative Pack, which features 12 additional plug-ins including the Eleven Lite for real life guitar amp emulations and Black Op for iconic distortions and overdrives.
