The LS1 is a fully integrated music playback system that offers supreme transparency in an elegant design.  It comes in three flavors: the original (updated) LS1v2, the more affordable LS1a, and the flagship LS1be. All LS1’s share the same vision that ultimate transparency can only be achieved by integrating all components of the playback chain into one system. Only then do designers have full control over the interaction of electronics, loudspeaker units, and the acoustic behavior of the cabinet. The result is very low distortion and an extremely linear amplitude and phase response. 

As DSP control, DA converters, amplifiers, and loudspeakers are fully integrated, one only has to add a source to start enjoying music. Both analog and digital sources like a Phono stage, a CD transport, a media player, or a computer are accepted by the LS1. The LS1r controller allows convenient control of volume and source selection. The LS1i USB interface allows for computer audio playback and setup of the system via the LS1 PC remote app. Grimm Audio believes that once the whole audio chain becomes transparent, the work of the artists can be enjoyed in full, with its original intention. Our flagship product LS1be takes the LS1 performance to the next level. Grimm Audio’s aim was to improve transparency even further by focusing on “authority, control, and flow”. To achieve this, Grimm Audio worked on lowering distortion and extending the linear audio band. Grimm Audio added a new Beryllium tweeter, which was co-developed with Seas. It extends the frequency range and has 9 dB less distortion than Grimm Audio’s original tweeter. In addition, Grimm Audio lowered jitter, improved the power supplies, employed some exclusive component selection and decided on silver power supply wiring for the finishing touch.

At the low end of the frequency spectrum, Grimm Audio obtained an even bigger improvement. Grimm Audio’s newly developed Digital Motional Feedback (SB1) subwoofer has an impressive 30 dB lower distortion, which means the bass area is now just as transparent as the mid and treble.

Of course, just like with Grimm Audio’s other LS1’s, the LS1be frequency response is linearized through smart use of DSP via a Computer Aided Calibration process during production.

The LS1be can be controlled by the MU1 music player, or by the LS1r controller and the LS1i USB interface, well known from the LS1. The cabinet can be ordered in a stylish ‘Hi-Macs’ artificial stone finish or in Grimm Audio’s traditional bamboo veneer look.
