UA Drops New Microphones

Today, Universal Audio unveiled that they’ll be adding microphones to their line of professional audio equipment. Two of these offers are rebranded classic microphones that UA has acquired, the legendary Bock Audio and Townsend Labs. Additionally, Universal Audio has two proprietary microphones designed for the home studio market.

Let’s take a look.

Bock Series

Universal Audio acquires a classic – Bock Audio. Bock Audio was started by David Bock – long time studio tech in the 80s and 90s at Ocean Way, Hyde Street and Hit Factory. Bock’s microphones are highly revered as some of the most accurate replications of microphone heavy-hitters and are sought after by many.

The UA Bock 167, Bock 187 and Bock 251 will be introducing this series, utilizing the same specs and schematics as the original Bock units themselves. What’s more, these mics will be handmade at the Universal Audio Custom Shop in California, with David Bock overseeing the process to ensure the same quality and incredible sound his boutique designs have been known for.

Universal Audio and Bock coming together is very exciting as both companies have extensive history in faithfully reproducing iconic gear and the sound that made them.

Sphere L22 Modeling Mic

Townsend Labs is also joining Universal Audio, bringing their incredible Sphere L22 Modeling Microphone and it’s 34 legendary microphone emulations to UA’s line of faithfully crafted pro audio gear.

Get the sounds of classic mics used by the greats from The Beatles and Beyoncé to Radiohead and Frank Sinatra. Thanks to its dual-capsule design, the Sphere L22 lets you easily record piano, drums, strings, and more in stereo. You can even use different mic models on the left and right channels for professional acoustic guitar recordings.

The Sphere L22 works with any interface in any DAW, but when paired with an Apollo interface, you can audition the sound of classic mics, without latency.

Standard Series

Along with their acquisitions, Universal Audio is releasing their first step into the microphone game with their Standard Series of microphones. From Universal Audio come the SD-1 Standard Dynamic Microphone, featuring a cardioid polar pattern, selectable low cut and articulation boost switches, and Apollo Channel Strip Presets for instant pro sound. Take the guesswork out of getting polished sound with Apollo’s custom SD-1 mic presets, featuring radio-ready EQ and compression settings for vocals, guitars, and broadcasts.

Also releasing is the SP-1 Standard Pencil Microphone, a pair of small-diaphragm condenser microphones ideal for capturing articulation from acoustic instruments and drum overheads.

Universal Audio’s Standard Series will give users a low price entry point while still providing astounding studio quality that can’t be beat.
