Located in Burbank, CA, Keywords Studios LA specializes in full-service audio post production and content localization for film and television. Among their many audio services are ADR & Voiceover Recording, Sound Design & Implementation, and Audio Mixing.
Having previously worked with Westlake Pro on a 5.1 surround mixing retrofit, the Keywords team knew exactly who to call when they needed to outfit a new studio with a brand-new Dolby Atmos system.
They reached out to Stephen Bannister and Westlake Pro’s Design Services Group once again to install and integrate a new ADR studio and control room, and the team wasted no time in putting together a state-of-the-art Immersive Audio build.
Gearing Up For An Immersive Workflow
Keywords’ new control room was outfitted with a 7.1.4 Dolby Home Entertainment Atmos system with fold-down and array setups for 2.0, 5.1, 5.1-Array, and 7.1 surround, allowing audio to be mixed in almost all major formats. Dolby Atmos Production Suite and Dolby Audio Bridge were also installed and configured for a single-CPU ‘in-the-box’ Atmos workflow.
The producer’s desk was integrated with a pair of Avid S1 Control Surfaces alongside an Avid Pro Tools | Dock. Additionally, a Mac Studio M1 Max was loaded with Pro Tools Ultimate and Dolby Atmos Renderer, allowing producers and engineers to record and mix in Immersive formats with ease.
On the other side of the glass, a simple yet elegant live recording room with acoustic treatment was set up for talent to record voice-overs for ADR and dialogue localization. An integrated talkback system between the two rooms ensures that the talent and engineer can communicate effortlessly.
