Sennheiser’s cardioid MKH 8040 is a multi-purpose studio condenser mic with a cardioid polar pattern that’s designed to reduce room sound in overly reverberant spaces or untreated rooms with poor acoustic characteristics. The MKH 8040 StereoSet is particularly useful for tracking drum overheads in less-than-perfect environments.
