INSIDE THE BOX—Mackie Big Knob Studio 

With dual, high-fidelity, high-headroom Onyx preamps with 60dB gain, zero-latency monitoring, and built-in talkback mic, you can track in a professional setting. When mix time comes, the Big Knob Studio lets you select from different sources, including USB playback from your DAW, and switch between two sets of studio monitors. It also has two headphone outputs with individual level control, independent gain all I/O for balanced listening levels, and even a front-panel input for your Smartphone—Just add powered monitors and you’re good to go.     

USB input/output jack 

The built-in USB interface sends input signals directly to the computer, which can also be routed directly to the monitor and headphones outputs. Similarly, stereo playback and/or the 2-track outputs are always routed back into the device for monitoring and overdubbing (unless you choose to mute them in software). Since the phones and monitor outputs have separate volume controls, you can monitor in any combination. And because analog input signals may be blended in with playback signals for monitoring purposes, overdubs can occur in real-time without annoying and performance-killing computer latency.

OUTSIDE THE BOX—Mackie Big Knob Studio 

Controls on the top panel include mic/line/instrument gain controls for preamp channels 1 and 2; 48V phantom power button, pan button, which either pans channels 1 and 2 hard left and right respectively or center pans both; trim control for channels 3/4 and 5/6; 2-track source select for ¾, 5/6, and USB; trim controls for monitor outputs A, B, and C; monitor select buttons; direct monitoring blend knob between input and cue mix; Cue source select knob (Mix, Aux, USB, 3/4); level controls for headphones 1 and 2 with 2-track/cue source buttons; talkback level control; To 2-track and To Cue buttons, which routes talkback to studio outputs and headphone outs; and of course, the big knob volume control section with 16-segment LED meter, and mono, mute and dim buttons, plus indicators for power, USB, and phantom power.

Front-panel I/O includes two 1/4″ stereo TRS jacks for headphones 1 and 2. Rear-panel I/O includes USB input with record source select button; 2x balanced XLR preamp inputs; XLR talkback mic with 1/4″ footswitch jack; six 1/4″ balanced/unbalanced TRS jacks for monitor A, B, and C; 2x 1/4″ bal/unbal jacks for Studio/Phones Amp; 2x 1/4″ bal/unbal 2-track out jacks with +4dBu/-10dBV selector; 2x 1/4″ channel 3/4 source and 2x 1/4″ 5/6 source with +4/-10 selector, and 2x ¼” bal/unbal Cue Inputs. Also on the rear panel are power switch and external power supply connector.
