- Three methods for tempo setting and eight rhythm types
- Chromatic reference pitch for instrument Earphone jack for private practice, and tuning

Since the human brain responds more rapidly to images, the MA-1’s beat-counting display, provides easily comprehensible triangular icons to indicate the specified beat. The icon color changes on each beat (moving from left to right), indicating the current beat of the measure. This also provides a visual for measure changes, so you always know where 1 one is—a distinct advantage over sound-only metronomes.
Tempo and rhythm settings
The Korg MA-1 offers three ways to set tempo: you can use standard increments or pendulum steps like a mechanical metronome; set tempo in single-step increments ranging from 30 to 252 BPM (full steps); or you can use the tap tempo function to synchronize the MA-1 in time with music playback. The MA-1 enables you to specify beat count up to nine beats per measure, with eight rhythm types based on quarter-, eighth-, and sixteenth-note variations including quadruplets, quadruplets with middle beats omitted, and quadruplets with the third and fourth beats omitted. MA-1 rhythms also include, straight triplets, triplets with inner beat omitted, and triplets with the third beat omitted.
Sound Out chromatic tuning mode
Sound Out mode produces a reference pitch (selectable over an octave C4-B4) that you can for instrument tuning or ear training. The frequency of the A4 reference pitch can calibrated in 1Hz steps from 410Hz to 480Hz.
Earphone jack for personal use
An 1/8″ mini-jack earphone output is provided for private use. The earphone volume can be adjusted to suit personal practice in your room to group rehearsal in the studio.
Memory backup /auto power-off
On power-off, all current settings are recalled on next power-up, including tempo, beat, rhythm, calibration, and reference tone. (These settings will be initialized when you replace the batteries.) To preserve battery life, the MA-1 powers down after 20 minutes of non-use with the power on.
Up to 290 hours of continuous use
The MA-1 is designed for long battery life, with continuous operation of approximately 70 hours when using zinc-carbon batteries, or approximately 290 hours when using alkaline batteries.
