A question of balance
The hallmark of any good mastering engineer is the ability to create a cohesive tonal balance across all tracks in an album, regardless of the arrangement and production choices for each song. However, these days, with so much musical DIY going on, there aren’t years available for everyone seeking to self-master their records to gain the proper experience. The new Tonal Balance Control gives you a way to “turn up your ears.” You can Instantly call up any Ozone Equalizer and adjust your tracks to targets based on hundreds of professional masters. Also, for professionals, who now see a huge influx of budget work, the ability to work fast and achieve the results commensurate with your reputation is paramount. Enter again, the industry-first Tonal Balance Control plug-in. TBC not only provides visual analysis, it can communicate with all instances of Ozone across your tracks, enabling you to craft a perfectly balanced master. You can even create your own custom targets from one or more songs in your personal library.
Doin’ the Neutron dance
Not limited to communicating across Ozone 8 instances, the Tonal Balance Control plug-in can also trip the light fantastic with Neutron 2 and Ozone 8 Equalizers (available separately). Tonal Balance Control’s inter-plug-in communication enables you to fix mix issues without context switching or opening up multiple windows—just tonally balanced, professional sounding music.
The shape of things to come
The new Spectral Shaper module lets you smooth and shape harsh and other problematic frequencies by applying frequency-specific dynamics surgically or creatively, to create smooth, balanced audio. Fantastic for smoothing out sharp transients, Spectral Shaper can tame sibilant hi-hats, harsh vocals, plucky acoustic guitars, and other overly-bright mix elements. For creative purposes, you can use the Spectral Shaper across any frequency band to experiment with timbre, resonance, and transient information without affecting other elements of the source audio.
A real fine place to start
In a world of unlimited options, nothing can be more immobilizing than picking a place to start. To get you to a logical starting point, from which your musical vision can blossom, Advanced Master Assistant uses the sonic profile of your audio to give you a place to start. To get the time-consuming, housekeeping chores out of the way so you can get to the business of crafting a sonic signature, Master Assistant will suggest targets, signal chain, and processor settings, so you can get to what’s most important—adding your personal touch.
A/B… see? Easy as 1-2-3
To ensure that your masters are commercially competitive with the modern sounds and levels, you can A/B your master against reference tracks directly within any instance of Ozone or in standalone. Instead of loading a project with tracks and playing clever games with solo, mute, aux and master faders, Ozone integrates track referencing into its workflow, making it easy and intelligent. Since the human ear loses perspective rather quickly in terms of comparisons, track referencing in Ozone lets you to load up to 10 tracks, identifying sections of your reference for facile playback of verse or chorus for example, so you can spend less time futzing and more time mastering.
