Description

The Focusrite RedNet D64R is a 64-channel MADI/Dante bridge with sample-rate conversion and redundant network and power supplies for maximum reliability in critical live sound or broadcast applications

Sporting the familiar red anodized face plate of Focusrite’s premier analog Red Range to serve as a visual reminder that RedNet is Focusrite’s finest, the RedNet D64R provides a 64-channel link between a Dante Ethernet-based audio network and any MADI (AES10) system. The RedNet D64R features independent sample-rate conversion on each input and output, which enables you to interface between MADI and Dante systems regardless of the sample rate that either system is operating at. With the RedNet D64R, you can interface a Dante audio network with a DAW outfitted with a MADI PCIe card, converters, a MADI-based digital console or any MADI-equipped gear. To keep it all in sync, RedNet D64R provides Word Clock I/O. For critical live sound or broadcast applications, the RedNet D64R can seamlessly switch between its dual Ethernet and power supplies should the unexpected occur.

Focusrite RedNet D64R in one take:

  • 64-channel seamless connection between MADI Dante systems.
  • Built-in redundancy with dual locking power and etherCON network connectors.
  • Sample rate conversion (SRC) on each input and output, allowing MADI and Dante systems to operate simultaneously at different sample rates
  • RedNet Control 2 and Dante software allow remote routing and control, no hardware patching required

INSIDE THE BOX—Focusrite RedNet D64R

The RedNet D64R supports up to 64 channels of both coaxial and optical MADI interfaces. It’s completely bi-directional, which lets you use any Dante devices, including any of RedNet’s high-quality interfaces with a MADI system, or conversely, any MADI components with a Dante system. The D64R supports up to 64 channels of digital audio I/O at standard sample rates (44.1/48kHz) from a MADI system, 32 channels at 96kHz, and 16 at 192kHz. Additionally, you can slave either the MADI streams or Dante system to an external clock. RedNet D64R supports both varispeed and non-varispeed MADI modes. Non-varispeed mode enables up to 64 channels I/O at 48 kHz. Varispeed mode enables up to 56 channels I/O at 48kHz. The MADI input of RedNet/D64R will automatically detect the channel count of incoming signals, which means no user adjustments are necessary.

Built-in power supply and Ethernet redundancy

The RedNet D64R’s network and PSU redundancy gives live sound and broadcast engineers that much needed extra piece of mind in critical live sound environments. After all, who doesn’t appreciate one less are where things can go wrong, especially in circumstance where there are no do-overs. Dual rear-panel Ethernet connectors provide absolute network reliability with seamless switch-over to a standby network in case of the unexpected. In a studio setting, these ports can be used to daisy-chain additional units when operating in Switched mode. Redundant universal power supplies(100V-240V) also provide seamless switching capability. In the event of a power outage, one supply can be connected to an uninterruptible source. Each PSU’s status can be monitored remotely over the network or from the front panel.

Sample-rate conversion (SRC) and Word Clock

SRC—The D64R’s sample-rate conversion allows external equipment to run at any sample rate, allowing plug-and-play operation with any AES3 source. SRC can be switched in or out separately for each input channel pair. For sources not using current system clock as a reference signal, SRC should be switched in. This can be particularly useful in post-production environments where the network audio is pulled up or down.

Pull Up/Down—RedNet D64R is able to operate at a specified pull-up or pull-down percentage, which is selectable in the Dante Controller application. The D16R can accommodate sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz with -4%/-0.1% pull down, and +0.1%/+4.167% pull up at 24 bits.

Word Clock‑The RedNet D64R will automatically lock to a valid network master via its Dante connection, or can be chosen as the network master. Word Clock in allows sync between the Dante network and house word clock. The RedNet D64R is able to operate across two separate clock domains, including the RedNet network clock and MADI audio clock. These two domains do not have to be synchronous, which means independent clock sources can be used. RedNet D64R can accept clock signal from three sources: internal, Word Clock in, and MADI input.

RedNet Control 2 software

RedNet Control 2 allows for improved device monitoring, metering and control over all device parameters. Running on Mac or Windows computers, RedNet Control provides remote control and related functionality for the RedNet range. RedNet Control 2 features atabbed browser-like graphic user interface and the ability to handle up to 600 RedNet devices. Available units in the system can be dragged and dropped from the searchable Device List sidebar into a grid on a tab, where they are shown graphically. Each tab can display up to 12 devices, and up to 50 tabs can be defined. Tabs can also be populated automatically. Devices can be grouped logically and intuitively on each page. For example, a multi-location system can include a tab representing each area of a facility.
