Description
The Dynaudio M3XE is a 3-way, quad-amped main monitor with dual, handcrafted 12″ LF drivers, dual 6″ midrange drivers, 1.1″ soft-dome tweeter, matched with two Lab.gruppen PLM 12k44 amplifiers
The Dynaudio M3XE is the latest iteration of Dynaudio’s esteemed M3A monitor. Along with the advantages of flush-mounted monitors, such as predictable bass behavior, more truthful imaging and better tonality due to reduced diffraction, the advanced technology of the M3XE main monitors puts your sound under a microscope, revealing every subtle nuance and detail. The M3XE features Dynaudio’s industry-leading, renowned ESOTAR² driver technology, a favorite for critical listening and audiophile reproduction. With a unique, liner-phase 22Hz – 21kHz frequency response and a 135dB SPL, the M3XE is a study in power, precision response, and high-resolution audio. To provide that power, the M3XE is powered by not one, but two 4-channel 12k44 Lab.gruppen amplifiers powering the high-frequency, midrange, and dual low-frequency woofers via four discrete channels at 3,000W each. The 12k44 features Lake Processing, renowned for active crossover processing and the industry standard for loudspeaker protection and sonic transparency. All combined, the Dynaudio M3XE takes your studio monitoring to new and previously un-ascended sonic plateaus.

Tweeter—While there have been numerous discussions on what material makes the best tweeter, Dynaudio’s answer is “experience.” In essence, it’s a matter of understanding the advantages and disadvantages and designing ways to accentuate the advantages and mitigate the disadvantages. For example, silk dome tweeters may lose their shape at higher frequencies, which results in distortion. Metal dome tweeters maintain their shape out to higher frequency levels, but they can sound harsh. Dynaudio’s Esotar2 tweeters combine the advantages of both.
Dynaudio has perfected the soft dome design via an extremely time-consuming, labor-intensive process in which the fine fabric diaphragm is shaped into a dome and then treated with a special precision coating that maintains it shape at high-frequencies without the harshness of more exotic materials. The Esotar2 tweeter features a specially coated 1.1″ (28 mm) diameter fabric dome, ultra-lightweight voice coil, an extremely powerful neodymium magnet, and an exceptional CNC-machined metal housing with a newly-developed damping back chamber. The performance is highlighted by extremely high power handling, effortless reproduction of dynamics, absolute clarity, natural tonal balance, and incredible resolution.
12″ woofer—Built to precise parameters with extremely tight tolerances, Dynaudio’s innovative 12″ (30 cm) Esotar2 woofer, exhibits deep bass performance—with an incredible low-frequency extension down to 18Hz. It features a massive dual-stacked magnet system that powers a large 3″ (75 mm) aluminum voice coil and MSP cone diaphragm. Dynaudio’s exclusive MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) driver membrane achieves ideal combination of rigidity, light weight, and excellent inner-damping to reproduce the lowest frequencies naturally and without distortion. It also has an ultra-rigid, die-cast frame basket that provides the most anti-resonant foundation possible, resulting in a powerful, accurate, and controlled bass that precisely tracks the amplifier’s signal, even at the highest output levels.
PLM10000Q powered loudspeaker management system
The two-input, four-output Lab.gruppen PLM10000Q seamlessly integrates networked digital signal distribution, drive processing, power amplification, and load verification
While the M3XE is a 3-way system, the HF, MF and dual LF woofers of each enclosure are individually powered by a 2-input/four-output PLM10000Q.
Power Amplifier
The amplifier section of the PLM 10000Q Powered Loudspeaker Management system features enhancements for greater sustained power output. Its basic output topology is Lab.gruppen’s patented Class TD, which combines the high efficiency of Class D with the sonic purity of Class B, with new circuitry for substantially greater current-carrying capability. The Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply (R.SMPS) is optimized to deliver full power during long low-frequency bursts, as well as maintain stable rail voltages despite fluctuating line voltage.
Load verification and continuous performance monitoring
The PLM 10000Q includes a breakthrough set of tools for fast, accurate load verification and real-time performance monitoring. The LoadLibrary, key to both of these features, is a comprehensive database that provides unique “Fingerprints” (load characteristics) for each loudspeaker model in the system.
Lake processing
The PLM 10000Q has four precision, full-featured Lake Processing modules, with settings for gain, delay, crossover slope, equalization, and limiting. Exclusive Lake Processing algorithms are included for Raised Cosine Equalization, linear phase crossovers, LimiterMax loudspeaker protection, and Iso-Float ground isolation. Raised Cosine Equalization provides the foundation of Lake’s Mesa EQ and Ideal Graphic EQ, which are revolutionary EQ interfaces found in the Dolby Lake Processor. Mesa EQ offers asymmetric filtering to match the asymmetric responses of many loudspeaker systems. The Ideal Graphic EQ offers true sum-to-flat response, so the adjustments provide uniform boost and cut along with greater selectivity.
Lake Controller software
Lake Controller software provides a comprehensive interface for control and monitoring of the Powered Loudspeaker Management system. In addition to standard Lake Processing, which can be used with Dolby Lake Processors, it provides control and monitoring of digital input gain and attenuation, and load verification and performance monitoring via LoadSmart and SpeakerSafe. The Lake Controller software environment can handle extensive networks of powered loudspeaker management systems from a single computer. The user interface is based on discrete processing modules, with each module assigned to power outputs normally defined for sets of band-limited drivers (e.g. low, mid, high, subs). Adjustments can be made in real time to any parameter of any module on the network. Modules may be assigned to groups representing subsystems in larger systems, such as main arrays, delays, and fills in an arena system.
Dante Audio Over IP networking
The PLM Series Powered Loudspeaker Management systems come standard-equipped with Audinate’s Dante Audio Over IP, a self-configuring digital audio networking solution. The industry standard for audio networking, Dante provides reliable, sample-accurate audio transmission via Ethernet with extremely low latency. Dante incorporates Zen™, an automatic device discovery and system configuration protocol that enables PLM Series products and other Dante-equipped devices to find each other on the network and self-configure.
Dynaudio’s CAFÉ power management for the environmentally conscious
CAFÉ (Configuring Amplifiers For the Environment) is a software suite that allows the PLM10000Q to be easily configured and monitored in the most efficient manner possible. CAFÉ provides comprehensive system monitoring and configuration of amplifier features, such as RPM (Rational Power Management, which provides integrators to specify varying output-channel load conditions; ISVPL (Inter-sample Voltage Peak Limiter), a zero-overshoot voltage peak limiter working in concert with LoadLibrary to precisely tailor each output for any type of load; and Breaker Emulation Limiter (BEL), which ensures uninterrupted service.
CAFÉ also includes valuable help to save the environment (and reduce electric bill). In combination with RPM configuration, CAFÉ can accurately predict average mains current draw and generated heat. By combining with the PLM+ Series’ innovative power supply technologies in combination with BEL, the mains draw can be safeguarded to a predicted level. The end result is precise mains management and thermal control, which allows more accurate (rather than over-specified) provision of mains distribution, cabling and cooling. This technology suite reduces lifetime running costs and minimizes environmental impact. It also reduces demands on UPS systems.
