Celemony Melodyne 4, the leading pitch and time-stretch software with improved sound design features, simultaneous editing across multiple tracks, and more

Winner of the Technical Grammy award in 2012, Celemony Melodyne 4 Studio is the latest full-featured edition of the industry’s leading pitch processing software. Not only is Melodyne capable of correcting pitch or extending the decay of a single note without audible artifacts, it can even balance inner voices in a piano or guitar chord. However, Melodyne’s ability to creatively manipulate digital audio goes far beyond that. It has the ability to adjust intonation, vibrato, volume, timing in an easy and intuitive fashion. Melodyne 4 Studio can also manipulate melodies, harmonies, rhythm, grooves, dynamics, and formants, even with polyphonic instruments, such as guitar and keyboards. Melodyne can also convert audio to MIDI notes, which makes creating “drops” (e.g. reinforcing a bass line with a synth) on the fly an easy process. Plus, you can take existing sounds and manipulate its overtones, creating new and unique sounds. Best a plug-in that’s compatible with all major DAWs, or in standalone.   of all, Melodyne does all this and more with a musician-friendly interface as

Celemony Melodyne 4 Studio in one take:

  • Manipulate notes, edit intonation, melodies, harmonies, rhythms, grooves, dynamics, formants and more, even with individual notes of polyphonic instruments
  • See and edit the notes of multiple tracks simultaneously

Create soundscapes with new Sound Editor

A sound designer’s new best friend, Melodyne’s new Sound Editor enables you to make creative changes in the harmonic structure of instruments including envelope enhancement, timbral changes, manipulation of overtones, and re-synthesis, from subtle to radical. Melodyne 4 Studio has the ability to recognize the overtone series, which enables you to edit the harmonic structure of notes, making it a more powerful tool than a conventional equalizer, for bringing notes forward or balancing instruments in a mix. Rather than the frequency-dependent amplitude of EQs, Melodyne adapts to the audio material itself, enabling you to adjust the level of individual overtones within each track, shaping the timbral quality of each instrument, bringing out its character, or changing it subtly to blend in or stand out.

Work more effectively with Audio Random Access (ARA)

Audio Random Access (ARA) is what gives Melodyne its user-friendly power, by making audio available in real time. Rather than having to search, select, and load audio into standalone Melodyne, the improved ARA integration lets you access individual clips or entire DAW tracks without transfers. Plus, it includes Multi-track Note Editing for simultaneous editing of multiple tracks.

In the new ARA Clip Mode, you can see and edit content even when it lies beyond a selected clip range in the DAW. This translates to the ability to quickly correct notes sliced in two by clip borders, which dramatically streamlines vocal or instrument comping in the DAW. In the companion ARA Track Mode, you can access entire tracks, viewing all clips regardless of how they cut and arranged in the DAW. The two modes complement each other perfectly and offer ideal editing possibilities for your DAW tracks.

The expanded ARA possibilities are available in Melodyne 4.1 up, and currently supported by Studio One, Sonar, Samplitude, Mixcraft and Tracktion.*

*Due to manufacturer’s different code structures, the range of ARA functions may vary from DAW to DAW.

Multi-track note editing with Direct Note Access and ARA

Celemony’s Direct Note Access (DNA) was perhaps its most awe-inspiring, groundbreaking advance in pitch editing, as it gave DAW users access to notes within a chord for pitch and time-stretch editing (!!, right?) Now with Melodyne 4 Studio, you can work on an unlimited number of tracks simultaneously with DNA polyphonic editing.

Multi-track editing with DNA enables you to you can see and edit the notes of as multiple tracks in context, is as if you were viewing an orchestral score. The big difference is that the actual notes are floating in front of you, so rather than erasing, re-writing, and re-recording, you can reach into your music and modify harmony and voice leading, melody, and rhythm, regardless of which tracks they belong to and reshape your music.

Multi-track editing with DNA working in concert with ARA (Audio Random Access) integration, which gives you real-time access to audio editing enables you to use Melodyne 4 Studio as a plug-in—no tedious loading tracks into a standalone processor. This is available on all DAW tracks. Never before has the musical interplay of multiple tracks been as readily observed or intuitively edited.

Macros available across multiple tracks

In Melodyne 4 studio, the macros become even more powerful and convenient, since they are not limited to a single track. You can select notes and make timing and intonation changes in as many tracks as you wish with a single command. Furthermore, synchronizing tracks is particularly easy: just define one track as the quantization master and sync all the other tracks to it.

New intelligent tempo detection

If you’ve recorded live rhythm tracks without a click and need to create new keyboard parts by experimenting with MIDI, having a grid where measures are displayed makes life easy. Even you’re going to record analog all the way, knowing where the downbeat is can be extremely helpful, especially when you’ve recorded at 120BPM and 4/4 time in the DAW, but the song is a different tempo and time signature. Or, if you’re punching in and want to give the artist a one- or two-measure lead in, having the song arranged in measures enables you get around quickly, so the talent doesn’t lose the muse, Melodyne 4 Studio comes to the rescue. Its new algorithms detect tempos, time signatures, and changes over time more accurately than ever before.

Melodyne 4 can precisely track the tempo of a live recording, ensuring the click keeps time with the musicians, not the other way around. And still, you enjoy all the practical benefits of a beat-based grid when working in your DAW. Additionally, you can curb excessive fluctuation in tempo without turning the entire performance into a mechanical one, by saving the variations that lend charm to a live performance. You can also synchronize recordings with quite different tempos or variations in tempo. Melodyne 4 Studio makes working with tempo simple and easy, enabling you work with greater freedom.

Improved note detection

Melodyne 4 Studio features two new algorithms, Polyphonic Sustain and Polyphonic Decay, which have been optimized for polyphonic recordings. Depending on the audio, Melodyne selects between Polyphonic Sustain (strings, organs) or Polyphonic Decay (pianos, guitars) for optimal sound quality. Additionally, you can edit note detection in far greater detail, thus managing complex material more effectively. These algorithms enable you drill down deeper and work more precisely with your music, an still maintain higher sound quality from your editing.

Time-stretching for entire mixes

If you’re dealing with commercial use of music where the length of a track or music bed is a critical condition (say, in a 30-second commercial), Melodyne 4 Studio’s Universal algorithm is ideally suited to time-stretching and pitch-shifting entire mixes. The algorithm delivers outstanding results with polyphonic material (if direct note access is not needed). With its exceptional sound quality and modest CPU demands, the Universal algorithm is an invaluable addition to Melodyne’s array of algorithms.

Dynamic “Just Intonation”

Tuning audio tracks is one of the secrets of a punchy, coherent mix. Melodyne 4’s just intonation adds transparency and presence to instruments. Whether you’re working on an orchestral, choral, or electronica recording, you’ll find justly tuned chords sound smoother and more powerful. Melodyne can give your production the benefits of this enhanced psychoacoustic effect.

More keyboard shortcuts

To tailor Melodyne to your workflow, you can assign keyboard shortcuts to your personal preferences. Thanks to the improvements in Melodyne 4 Studio, keyboard shortcuts are not just available in stand-alone mode, they can now be applied to plug-in implementation. An enormous gain in efficiency, this feature enables you to work faster and more easily.

Melodyne’s ability to musically edit and transform digital audio, as well as offer creative options unavailable elsewhere, make it an essential tool for modern music production. For more information, call or chat online with your Westlake Pro Sales Consultant today.
