8-channel modular control surface with 8 touch-sensitive faders and rotary control/push knobs, OLED scribble strips, and transport
The Avid Artist Mix provides DAW users with an affordable solution for hands-on mixing on EUCON-enabled workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, and more. An 8-fader modular system, the Artist Mix hides far more functionality than its streamlined surface would suggest. Avid’s Artist Mix has eight touch-sensitive, motorized faders, plus eight touch- and velocity-sensing rotary push-knobs that allow you to select plug-ins and spread their various functions across the knobs. The rotary knob’s velocity sensing capability makes dialing through wide numerical parameters faster or more precise depending on the speed of rotation. The Avid Artist Mix also provides full transport via shift buttons that switch the surface’s solo and mute buttons to provide full navigation functions. Along with faders and knobs, the Avid Artist Mix features multiple dedicated switches that provide precision control of EUCON-enabled audio and video applications. With Avid Artist Mix, you get fast and easy access to a variety of software functions right from the surface—with excellent visual feedback—all in a compact footprint that fits perfectly between your keyboard and screen.
Avid Artist Mix modular control surface in one take:
• Eight high-quality, long-throw, touch-sensitive faders
• Eight touch-sensitive rotary push-knobs
• OLED scribble strips provide detailed visual feedback
• Record-enable, solo, mute, and automate tracks from the surface
• Bank and nudge controls and full transport provide efficient navigation
• Modular design allows custom configuration of Artist series controllers
• Free Pro Tools|Control iOS app provides dedicated transport via iPad
Touch-sensitive fader track select
Artist Mix features eight high-quality motorized, touch-sensitive, 100mm long-throw faders. With the Select by Touch preference enabled, touching a fader selects that track in the application and attentions it on that strip. Without having to mouse-click through software, the touch-sensitive faders plus Bank and Nudge keys let you navigate large mixes quickly and efficiently. You can also lock individual tracks to faders and store them as layouts. Avid’s EUCON control software lets you store up to 48 layouts per-project for easy recall. You can save multiple Layouts to mix groups of tracks, such as drums or backing vocals, or just lock a fader to act as a master fader, making mixing large projects a breeze.
Touch- and velocity-sensing knobs control plug-ins
Laid out below the OLED scribble strip at the top of the surface, the Artist Mix has eight press-and-turn touch-sensitive knobs that can be used to control multiple functions. In normal mod, the knobs control panning, while in channel mode, the knobs can be used to adjust individual parameters for plug-ins, EQ, dynamics, aux sends, VCA groups, and more. The knobs are both touch-sensitive and velocity sensitive, which lets you write automation quickly and intuitively. With the velocity-sensing component of the rotary knobs, you can quickly sweep from minimum to maximum parameter values in one turn,or make very precise adjustments by turning the knob slowly. Press the knob tops to instantiate plug-ins, sends, and more. You can even flip control from the knobs to the faders, providing an alternative way of adjusting parameters for processors such as a graphic EQ.
Detailed visual feedback via OLEDs
The Avid Artist Mix features eight high-resolution OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. OLED displays consume less power while projecting sharper images, along with a wide viewing angle, which come in very handy when you have to move you mix position. Each display shows the track’s name and name of the parameter currently assigned to the knob, along with a graphic display of the parameter setting. The Artist Mix OLED displays also let you view meters (clip, peak, and normal) for mono, stereo, or surround tracks, as well as the track’s automation mode.
Record-enable, solo, mute, and automate tracks
By eliminating the one-function-at-time selection of mouse and keyboard, Artist Mix accelerates your workflow by providing simultaneous access to various functions. You can record-enable, mute, solo, assign tracks, adjust volume levels across multiple tracks,fine-tune compressors, gates, EQ, and more right from the surface. In addition, the mute and solo keys do double duty as transport control keys. You can even punch in and out of recordings by connecting a foot switch. Without having to tediously click around a software interface, Avid Artist Mix control surfaces enable you to complete projects faster.
Quickly navigate projects
Along with the ability to attention a track and bring it into view via touch-sensitive faders, bank and nudge buttons let you navigate fader strips eight at a time, or move through tracks one fader strip at a time. Using the shift buttons, the solo and mute buttons change function to provide full transport controls, including play, stop, record, fast-forward, and rewind. There is also RTZ (return to zero) to bring you back to the beginning of your project, plus previous and next keys to navigate song-position markers.
Create a custom control surface
All Avid Artist Series controllers are modular and scalable, which means you can combine them together into a single slim-line surface to suit your physical setup and work habits. You can connect up to four Artist Mixes with one Artist Control for a music production system with up to 36 faders**; one Artist Transport; and one Artist Color for video editing in any order. You can also use Artist series controllers separately if you wish, since each controller has an Ethernet connection.
Extend your workflow with your iPad
If you’re using your Artist Mix controller(s) with Pro Tools or other EUCON-enabled software, download Avid’s free Pro Tools|Control iOS app for iPad and use it alongside your Artist Mix for dedicated transport. When used with Artist Mix, you gain new touchscreen workflows, Soft Keys control, additional visual feedback, a counter display, and customizable layouts.
Combine Avid Artist Mix with other Artist series controllers and build a comprehensive multi-fader control surface. For more information, call or chat with your Westlake Pro Audio Expert today.
