Tactile control of hue, saturation, and brightness
Free yourself from time-consuming, cumbersome, mouse hunting around your software. With the kind of control previously found only on high-end color grading hardware systems, Avid Artist Colorlets you perform tasks with precision and ease thanks to the ergonomic comfort and smooth response of its three high-resolution, optical trackballs.Use the left trackball to adjust color in the shadows, the middle trackball to fine-tune mid-tones, and the right trackball to tweak highlights. Contrast and vignettes can be controlled via the optical trackwheels surrounding each trackball.
To make the transition from mouse to Artist Color easier, you can toggle the center trackball on the fly to work as a mouse so your hands never have to leave the surface. You can also adjust the control sensitivity directly from the surface to suit your preferences.
Touch-sensitive soft knobs and programmable soft keys
Complementing its high-resolution trackballs and trackwheels, Avid Artist Color has six touch-sensitive,push-and-turn rotary knobs that let you navigate to a room, clear color parameters, and adjust the master lift, gain, and gamma. Simply press the knob to select a parameter and then rotate to adjust. The Artist Color also has nine programmable soft keys that let you add and delete key frames, set markers, save projects, and trigger other frequently performed tasks. For even greater editing flexibility, you can also program the soft keys with your own keyboard shortcuts and custom macros to perform complex tasks at the press of a button.
Copy and paste grade keys
The Avid Artist Color has additional controls dedicated to speeding up your workflow in the form of four pairs of dedicated Copy/Paste Grade keys, enabling you to copy the color settings of a desirable clip and paste it across other clips in your timeline.
High-resolution OLED displays
Avid Artist Color provides visual feedback in conjunction with the adjustments you make using the trackballs, trackwheels, or soft knobs. To accomplish this, Artist Color features six high-resolution, 128 x 64-pixel OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. OLED displays consume less power while projecting sharper images, along with a wide viewing angle, which is a major plus if you are sitting off-axis to your Artist Color. The OLED displays let you view corresponding parameter names and values as you make adjustments with Color’s various controls. The OLEDs also show your current room or view names when in NAV Mode.
Dedicated transport controls
For added convenience, the right trackwheel can function as a jog wheel to navigate through your project’s timeline. With dedicated transport keys used in conjunction with the right trackwheel, you can navigate large projects quickly. The transport keys include, play, forward play, reverse play, and stop playback, or jump to the next or previous clip.
Everyone has their own preference when it comes to video tools. Avid Artist Color lets you exercise your freedom of choice—provided those choices are EUCON enabled. EUCON is a high-speed Ethernet-based technology that enables the hardware to communicate directly with any EUCON-enabled application.
To take advantage of the flexibility provided by EUCON, the Artist Color has a button that lets you switch between applications. Artist Color instantly adapts all controls and displays to your current video software in seconds. You can even lock parts of the surface to one app while using the rest to switch between apps—perfect for monitor and transport controls. You can also control multiple workstations running any EUCON-enabled software on your extended network from one surface—ideal for multi-workstation workflows and facilities with machine rooms.
Because the Artist Color is application-agile, you can switch from a project in Media Composer to Smoke, Baselight, DaVinci Resolve, and other video software at the press of a button.
Create a custom control surface
All Avid Artist Series controllers are modular and scalable, which means you can combine them together into a single slim-line surface to suit your physical setup and work habits. You can connect up to four Artist Mixes with one Artist Controlfor a music production system with up to 36 faders**;one Artist Transport; and one Artist Color for video editing in any order. You can also use Artist series controllers separately if you wish, since each controller has an Ethernet connection.
