Description
The Amphion Two15 is a 5-1/4″ dual-woofer, passive studio monitor for critical listening, with passive radiator, custom low-frequency drivers, highly compliant titanium tweeter, and proprietary waveguide for accurate point-source monitoring
For mixers and engineers who require bass extension without hype, and don’t want to deal with, or have the room for subwoofers, the Amphion Two15 is the solution. It’s dual-woofer design separates low and midrange frequencies while working in concert with perfect phase alignment. The additional clarity gained from not having bass extend up into the midrange yields a wide sonic range and exceptional accuracy. The Two15 also features dual passive radiators mounted on the rear panel, which eliminate the noise and driver interference that can occur from turbulence caused by front-mounted bass reflex ports. Tying it all together is Amphion’s proprietary waveguide, which creates a seamless join for the woofer and tweeter. The result is the achievement of point-source monitoring, the key to perfectly phase aligned signal reaching your ear. Once you experience the natural, un-hyped sound of the Amphion Two15, you’ll wonder how you ever mixed without them.
Amphion Two15 passive studio monitor in one take:
- Dual woofers splits low and mid frequencies for greater clarity
- Controlled dispersion via proprietary, high-density Corian® waveguide
- Dual passive radiators for deep, controlled bass
- Low-frequency crossover and high-precision driver integration
- Handmade to exacting specification and tolerances
Controlled dispersion via proprietary, high-density waveguide
One of the problems plaguing two-way speaker design is phase coherency and linearity across the audible spectrum. The difficulties arise from combining the physical properties of the various drivers into a unified system. To accomplish this, Amphion’s proprietary Corian ® waveguide that seamlessly joins enables phase-coherent, point-source monitoring. Created to last a lifetime, Corian is a non-porous, highly reflective material with a stone-hard surface that can be seamlessly crafted into any shape to accommodate any design or dimension. The Two15’s waveguide enables superior integration between its low, mid, and high-frequency drivers across a broad frequency range, which reduces the need for electrical time correction. The result is stunningly accurate sound reproduction that turns the chore of making critical mix decisions into a creative pleasure.
Passive radiator for deep controlled bass
Due to the unyielding laws of physics, the price for the convenience of a compact cabinet is simply not enough physical space for properly designed bass reflex ports. Front-panel ports can contribute noise and hype to the low frequencies up through the midrange, masking the true response of the drivers. The passive radiator offers an elegant solution. In essence, the radiator is a diaphragm or speaker that doubly serves to cover inconveniently large ports and increase bass response. Mounted on the rear of the Two15’s sealed cabinet, are two passive radiators, one behind each woofer, that vibrates in sympathy with the low-frequency drivers. The radiators maintain the same low-frequency response regardless of volume—hence the Two15 providing exceptional tonal balance and sound stage at lower and more comfortable listening levels.
Low crossover frequency and high-precision driver integration
In order to make proper assessments and mix accordingly, monitors, to paraphrase Quincy Jones, should tell the truth. In essence, you have to be able to hear what you recorded. As such, harsh tone, distortion, phase problems, uneven directivity, and unnecessarily high listening volume not only color the sound, but cause ear fatigue, which can often be related to lack of resolution and balance. Amphion’s low crossover frequency and high precision driver integration interact seamlessly to provide accurate phase response and a realistic sound stage. Perhaps the most important feature of Amphion monitors is their uncanny ability to reproduce sound without adding any sound of their own—the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Handmade to exacting specifications
Amphion comprises a small, dedicated team of highly skilled craftsmen and technicians who are passionate about music and sound. All Amphion monitors and amplifiers are meticulously hand-built to impeccable standards, with high specs and tolerances. The result is a range of high-end monitors that enable audio professionals to focus on the mix, not the sound of the speaker.
Who’s using Amphion?
Among the growing list of mixers, engineers, sound editors, and composers taken with the Amphion sound, are pro audio luminaries such as Dave Pensado, Jacquire King, multiple Grammy winner Dave Reitzas, BAFTA award-winning composer, Jasper Kyd, and the legendary Bruce Swedien, engineer and mixer of the world’s best-selling album, Michael Jackson’s Thriller (which, by the way, was recorded right here at our very own Westlake Studios).
If you could only have one set of monitors for your studio, a set of Amphion Two15’s and an Amp500 will give you everything you need for perfect mix translation. For more information, call or chat online with your Westlake Pro sales consultant today.
