What’s New In Pro Tools 2024.3

Last year, Pro Tools 2023.9 and Pro Tools 2023.12 brought several significant enhancements to Avid’s flagship DAW, from the release of the new Pro Tools | Sketch workflow to the addition of the Dolby Atmos Internal Renderer.

The newest update, Pro Tools 2024.3, delivers an array of creative tools to enhance the workflow of composers, writers, and producers. The update offers music creators powerful new ways to work with MIDI, as well as seamless MIDI copy and paste functionality between Pro Tools and Sibelius.

These features are accompanied by additional improvements including macOS Sonoma 14.3 support, Pro Tools Sketch enhancements, detachable Melodyne and Clip Effects tabs, the ability to print and monitor live Dolby Atmos re-renders, and more. With this update, Pro Tools removes creativity barriers and continues to become an even more robust DAW for music composition, writing, and production from start to finish.

Let’s dive into the new features of Pro Tools 2024.3.

Support For MIDI Effect Plugins

Pro Tools 2024.3 supports MIDI effect plugins that enable you to quickly generate and manipulate MIDI to get inspired and realize your musical ideas.

From triggering multiple notes and modifying velocity and pitch to automatically generating musical riffs, rhythms, and arpeggiations, you can tweak and automate MIDI effects in real time. The new update delivers a collection of Avid and third-party MIDI effect plugins to Pro Tools, including Avid Note Stack, Velocity Control, and Pitch Control.

Pro Tools Artist, Studio, and Ultimate will also benefit from the addition of Audiomodern Riffer 3, Modalics EON-Arp, and Pitch Innovations Groove Shaper. And with Avid’s open AAX SDK, partners can develop all kinds of powerful and innovative MIDI effect plugins to give users even more creative choices.

Pro Tools 2024.3 also expands the Pro Tools MIDI environment with enhanced signal flow capabilities that enables MIDI routing within the same track, between tracks, and even between plugins.

Copy & Paste MIDI Between Pro Tools & Sibelius

All versions of Pro Tools 2024.3 will offer seamless copying and pasting of MIDI to and from the Sibelius music notation application (version 2024.3 and later), saving days worth of work by eliminating the need to build up scores from scratch in parallel applications.

You can now copy and paste MIDI from Pro Tools into Sibelius with all relevant MIDI information including notes, pitch, note duration, timing/position in clip, and continuous controller data across clips. Conversely, you can copy a passage selection or entire conductor track in Sibelius with all relevant data and paste directly into Pro Tools, allowing you to turn your compositions into full-fledged productions with ease.

Detachable Melodyne and Clip Effect Tabs

Clicking on the top right corner of Melodyne and Clip Effects tabs will pop out the tab to a floating window which can be positioned at any location, including a second monitor.

This allows for greater flexibility in project layouts, letting you set up your session to fit your exact workflow. The position of the detachable window will be saved with the Session, letting you customize each project and dive right back into your workflow when re-opening.

Dolby Atmos Improvements

The Dolby Atmos Internal Renderer introduced in Pro Tools 2023.12 has received additional improvements to save time and add efficiency when mixing in Dolby Atmos.

Users can now create custom re-renders (5.1, 7.1, etc.) that can be sent back to the input of tracks in Pro Tools and monitored in real-time. This re-render content can be filtered by group content, such as music or effects. The update also enables Dolby Atmos Music to be monitored using the AudioMovers Apple Binaural plugin on a 7.1.4 mix. Additionally, users can now apply a limiter before printing the stem.

These improvements allow more to be done directly in Pro Tools without requiring an external renderer application. Whether you work in audio post or music production, these new features will make your Dolby Atmos Internal Renderer immersive workflow even more seamless.
