Great Audio Starts With RX

The Complete Audio Repair Toolkit

RX has long been the go-to audio repair and polishing suite for film, television, music, podcasts, video games, sample libraries, and more. With version 8, iZotope’s added new features across the product lineup to speed up workflows and address new repair problems that plague today’s dialogue and music tracks. And they’ve also updated the Post Production Suite to include even more tools and value, making it the definitive choice for post production.

Improved Features in RX 8

RX Favorites Refined

> Music Rebalance

Music Rebalance is a powerful tool that intelligently identifies vocals, bass, percussion, and other instruments in a mix and allows for independent gain adjustment of each element.

Drums too loud? Vocals not loud enough? Are other instruments too present or is percussion not punchy enough? With Music Rebalance, you can easily reanimate a mix, create instrumental versions of songs by removing the vocal elements, or isolate the vocal to prepare a remix without having access to individual tracks or stems. Music Rebalance is also available as an AudioSuite plug-in.

Along with the mixing capabilities of Music Rebalance, RX 8 introduces automatic stem separation to generate independent files for further refinement—so no mix is ever really “final” until you say so.

New and improved features include…

  • Solo function per source
  • Automatic stem splitting
  • Improved algorithims

> Loudness Control

Prepare your recordings for final delivery with the detailed level readings and loudness management power with the improved Loudness Control module. Instantly load preset loudness standard targets and conform your production audio to broadcast requirements in seconds, and monitor your levels using the built-in numeric and histogram readouts for integrated, short-term, and momentary loudness. Plus, resize the module to fit your display perfectly and suit your own unique workflow.

> Module Chain

The Module Chain is designed to facilitate quick, simple editing, and speed up the workflow of anyone who finds themselves performing the same editing tasks again and again. Module Chain is able to load and save custom processing chains incorporating multiple processing modules, including multiple instances of the same module. You can then select a saved processing chain and fire if off with a single click. This is especially useful if you find yourself repeatedly applying the same modules with the same or similar settings in sequence. Module Chain ships with many presets to help get you up and running.

Now, Module Chain allows you to process specific frequency areas, letting you repair audio quickly and with precision.

> Batch Processor

An audio editor and file librarian in one module

The ultimate multitasking tool for post production, RX 8’s improved Batch Processor is more powerful than ever. Load multiple files from your machine, apply entire Module Chains to the entire batch, then export in as many file formats and bit depths to as many locations as you need. Meet your deadlines and maintain organization with just a few clicks.

> De-hum

World-class hum removal, now even better

The overhauled De-hum module and plug-in in RX 8 bring surgical control to your low-end editing workflow.

  • Up to sixteen harmonic reduction bands for more focused editing

  • Adaptive Mode for dynamic and automatic harmonic detection

  • High- and low-pass filters for fast EQ sculpting

  • Intuitive, click-and-drag interface for fluid parameter control

> Dialogue Isolate

Dialogue Isolate is even more powerful in RX 8. The module features improved Ambience Preservation, leaving a more natural sounding dialogue—even when noise reduction is pushed to drastic levels—to make sure your audience hears every word of your dialogue.

It is designed to separate spoken dialogue from non-stationary background noise such as crowds, traffic, footsteps, weather, or other noise with highly variable characteristics. It can be particularly effective at increasing the level of dialogue in challenging low signal-to-noise ratio conditions.

> Composite View

Composite View now allows you to edit up to 32 individual audio tracks (up from 16) as if they were one. In the RX Audio Editor, combine all active tabs into one “Composite” tab that allows you to apply the same processing to multiple files simultaneously. Composite View can be a valuable tool for increasing efficiency when performing repetitive spectral editing functions. This makes it particularly useful when making repairs in recording situations with multiple microphones or to multichannel files.

New Tools For Immaculate Results

> Spectral Recovery

Restore clarity in low-res video calls

With the increasing prevalence of remote meetings, video calls, and podcast interviews, Spectral Recovery helps restore frequencies above 4k that are removed when the audio is compressed for real-time streaming. Turn once-grainy, inarticulate recordings into crisp, clear conversations.

In RX’s spectrogram, it’s easy to see the re-synthesized frequency content that Spectral Recovery was able to restore. The spectrogram itself is resizable, allowing you to click and drag the module for more precise edits.

> Guitar De-Noise

Bring clarity and articulation to your guitar recordings

Guitar De-noise helps manage distracting equipment sounds for clean—yet still authentically human—acoustic or electric guitar recordings.

  • Amp tool to attenuate hiss and electrical interference
  • Pick tool to control pick-generated transients
  • Squeak tool to adjust the presence of fret noise and string slides
  • Sensitivity and Reduction sliders on each tool for precise refinements

Access Michael Brauer’s RX 8 Preset Pack to easily clean up clicks, refine guitar recordings, and remove troublesome noise.

> Wow & Flutter

Pitch-perfect vinyl and tape audio

Audio printed in physical formats—record albums, cassette tapes, film reels, etc.—often degrades as it ages over time. This can result in pitch fluctuations that can hamstring the listening experience. Wow & Flutter is designed to correct these pitch modulations, whether they’re long and drawn-out as in a warped record, or rapid fluctuations like you’d find on aged tape.

> Horizontal Scrolling

Bring clarity and articulation to your guitar recordings

You asked, and iZotope listened: horizontal scrolling is now built into the intuitive Spectrogram Display. Use the scroll gesture on your trackpad or mouse with your cursor to scroll through your audio across the X-axis for lightning fast edits.
