  1. So as a music professional who currently owns an HD native I/O, does this mean that I have to choice but to give these fools $800/year to keep using my hardware? I have absolutely no use for most of the features of the top tier, yet they seem to indicate that with my hardware I have no other choice. If true, this is a slap in the face. I’ve been supporting these lunatics for 20 years but this is a bridge too far.

    1. Hey Craig, what version of Pro Tools are you currently using?
In short, you will still be able to use your HD I/O without purchasing a subscription, but allow me to clarify a bit:

      • Pro Tools | Flex is a subscription-only version that adds to Pro Tools | Ultimate with an expanded set of tools that will continue to be added over time.
      • If you currently have a Pro Tools | Ultimate Subscription, you’ll automatically receive the Flex bundle (along with Pro Tools feature updates).
      • If you currently have a Pro Tools | Ultimate Perpetual license, with a current Upgrade/Support Plan, you’ll get the latest Pro Tools | Ultimate feature updates without the added Flex Bundle content.
      • If your Upgrade/Support plan is expired, you won’t be able to get the latest feature updates but you’ll be able to continue to use the version of Pro Tools (and hardware) when your Upgrade plan expired. If you’re Support Plan lapsed and you want the latest features, you can get a Reinstatement here.

Tl;Dr: You will not need a Pro Tools | Flex subscription in order to continue to use your HD I/O!

      1. I currently have Pro Tools Ultimate. I understand that they will automatically give me Flex for the remainder of my subscription period, which is fine. My question is what happens at the end of my current period? My understanding is that my only choice will be Flex if I want to continue using my HD native I/O, and that would cost 800 bucks even though I have no use for Flex and it’s 1024 Audio tracks and fifty million busses.

So I’d be faced with either overpaying for a version of the PT software I don’t need, or bailing on the HD Native interface entirely and buying an entirely new interface for absolutely no reason other than I was leveraged into it.

        Is that the case?

        1. Hey Craig, when you say subscription period, are you talking about a 1yr Pro Tools Ultimate Subscription ($799) or the Updates & Support Plan ($399 for Perpetual Licenses)?

If you’re on the annual subscription, the only differences are the additional enhancements and features you’ll be getting with the latest update and Flex bundle since *there has been no change in price between the PT ULT Subscription Renewal and PT Flex Subscription Renewal.*

In short, same price but new name/features. Let us know if you have any other questions or need additional clarity on this!

          1. This is unbelievably confusing. What is the difference between a PT subscription plan for 799 and and Update/support plan for 399? All I know is that I have PT Ultimate and it cost me 399 per year for the last several years to renew it.

Everything I’ve read seems to indicate that Ultimate is being converted to Flex and it will now cost me at least 799 per year to renew it. Is that not true? Are you saying it will still only cost 399? I haven’t seen anything, anywhere, indicating that.

Have I read all these documents incorrectly? Why is this all so convoluted?

          2. Hey Craig, the confusion is between the PT ULT Perpetual License + Update & Support Plan (what you have) and the PT ULT 1yr Subscription.

            • Perpetual license can be used forever; no new features if your Update & Support Plan expires ($399/yr).

1yr Subscription ($799/yr): Latest features, no need for U&S plan. Cannot use Pro Tools w.o active subscription.

The Flex bundle is a perk for the 1yr Subscription that adds 3rd party software content. Subscribers get extra content (Flex) but cannot use PT w.o active subscription.

PT ULT Perpetual => PT ULT Perpetual (no change)

PT ULT 1yr Sub => PT Flex 1yr Sub (same PT ULT + Flex bundle)

            Hope that helps!
