500 Series

500 Series processors are incredibly popular these days. Producers, engineers, and musicians gravitate towards this modular form of equipment for a multitude of reasons, but primarily because of their customizable nature and the fact that the modules are more affordable than their full-sized counterparts.

Customization

You can customize your 500 series rack (anywhere from 2 to 10 slots), with your choice of preamps, compressors, equalizers, and more. 500 Series processors are incredibly popular these days. Create your own channel strip, build a mastering chain, or add a bay of custom analog inputs to your studio.

Great Way to Save

Manufacturing costs for 500 series units are less than the full-sized versions of many of these products, because there is no need for a power source (power is supplied from the rack) or full casing. This means that, once you have a rack to mount them in, 500 series products are closer in reach, financially, than the larger versions they are often based on. The units are easy to swap in and out, so customizing your chain becomes a breeze.

Rack Options

Getting into the 500 series world does require an investment up front, however. In order to power these modules and run signal through them, you will need a 500 series rack. Racks come in many different shapes and sizes – there are desktop versions with two or three slots, single rack-unit versions (also with two or three slots), portable “lunchbox” racks with six slots, and so on, up to 10-slot racks. Which rack, or “chassis”, to go with depends on your needs, budget, and the spatial limitations of your studio.
